Olympic double sprint champion Elaine Thompson has withdrawn from the Shanghai Diamond League meet this weekend, citing physical issues. Thompson who was third in the 100 metres at the opening Diamond League meet of the season in Doha, has been struggling with an achilles injury since last season.
American World Championships silver medallist and World Indoor champion Christian Coleman has also withdrawn from the event. The withdrawals follow news that Olympic and world champions sprint hurdler Omar McLeod will compete at the meet despite pulling out of the Doha Diamond League due to abductor soreness last Friday. The Shanghai leg of the Diamond League series takes place this Saturday.
