Thompson rebounds at Birmingham Diamond League

Double Olympic champion Elaine Thompson shrugged off the disappointment of not securing a medal at the recent IAAF World Championships by continuing her dominance of the Diamond League with victory in Birmingham on Sunday.

Thompson clocked 10.93 seconds to beat World Championships silver medallist Marie-Josee Ta Lou of the Ivory Coast who returned 10.97 seconds while another Jamaican Jura Levy was third in 11.08 seconds.

National champion Kimberly Williams was second in the women’s triple jump where she cut the sand at 14.44 metres while compatriot Shanieka Ricketts was sixth with a best effort of 14 metres. The event was won by Colombia’s Olympic champion Caterine Ibarguen who leapt 14.51 metres.

And fresh from his 10th place finish at the London World Championships, Jamaica's Kemoy Campbell placed ninth in the 3000 metres in 8 minutes, 07.26 seconds.

Mo Farah who was running his last race on a British track before retiring to take up road racing, landed the event in 7 minutes, 38.64 seconds.
