Three-man CAS team to hear T&T volleyballer's appeal

The Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) has appointed a three-man panel to be chaired by American Professor of Law Matthew Mitten to hear the appeal of Trinidadian volleyballer Fabien Whitfield, who is challenging a four year ban.

The other two members, who will hear the appeal on a date to be announced possibly in Toronto, are attorneys Patrice Brunet of Canada and Lars Hilinger of Denmark.

In October, Whitfield received the ban from the International Volleyball Federation (FIVB) after testing positive for two banned substances including  testosterone, during the NORCECA beach volleyball tour event in Mexico on April 2, 2016.

Whitfield’s current legal team which is led by Canadian-based attorney Dr Emir Crowne will be arguing that the player inadvertently ingested the banned substance while eating contaminated horse meat.
