Three senior Kenyan officials suspended by IAAF

The independent IAAF Ethics Commission has announced the provisional suspension of Athletics Kenya President Isaiah Kiplagat, IAAF council member David Okeyo and former treasurer of the national association and team leader at the World Championships in Beijing in August, Joseph Kinyua from any IAAF or Athletics Kenya position pending investigation of complaints made against them and evidence and information which has been received by the IAAF Ethics Commission.

The three senior athletics officials have been accused of subverting anti-doping processes and potentially diverting sponsorship funds from Nike.

Kiplagat is also accused of accepting, either personally or on behalf of Athletics Kenya, an “apparent gift” of two motor vehicles from the Qatar Association of Athletics Federations in the period from 2014 to 2015. During that time Doha was bidding to host the 2019 World Championships.

A release from the IAAF said this provisional suspension, which is made in the interests of the integrity of the sport, is for a period of 180 days and is effective, and was made public by the Ethics Commission, on Monday.
