Torn hamstring rules Bailey-Cole out of World Championships

By Kayon Raynor

Commonwealth Games 100 metre gold medallist and Jamaica's third fastest man this year with 10.92 seconds Kemar Bailey-Cole has withdrawn from Jamaica's team to the 15th IAAF World Championships in China because of injury.

Writing on his Facebook page on Saturday evening from Jamaica's training camp in Tottori, Japan, Bailey-Cole also revealed he was ending his season.

"It is with bitter emotions that I am announcing that my season has come to an end. I will not be competing at the World Championships", read the post.

"This is so as an ongoing cramp to both hamstrings at the London anniversary games now lead to one of them being torn yesterday (Aug 15,2015) in practice. Thank you all for your thoughtfulness. Your generosity and support during this difficult time is greatly appreciated," added the 23-year-old sprinter

Manager of Jamaica's team, Ludlow Watts, who confirmed Bailey-Cole aggravated a hamstring injury during training revealed that Nesta Carter will likely replace Bailey-Cole in the 100m.

"The technical team will determine that, but it's likely that Nesta Carter would be the one to take the 100m metre spot," Watts told RJR Sports via telephone from Japan.

The manager noted that someone else in the 54 member squad will be drafted into the 4x100m relay pool.

"We still have a good team and I hope that things will work out well. We have options in the sense that there's a number of persons in the 200m who can also be considered for the sprint relay, so we have at least three people who we could use to replace (Bailey-Cole) in the 4x100m (pool) ," Watts reasoned.
