Ward guides Marvellous Marva to victory in Mark My Word Trophy

The 4-5 favourite Marvellous Marva won the Mark My Word Trophy for Open Allowance contestants over 9 furlongs and 25 yards at Caymanas Park on Wednesday. The 5 year old grey mare made it a gate to wire affair under 3 kilo claiming apprentice Melissa Ward, holding off the fast-finishing Hover Craft.

The co-feature Labour Day Trophy for $600,000 - $550,000 claimers,  saw Loose Cannon created a 9-1 mild upset under US-based veteran jockey Talbert Howell who is in the island on a short stint. Two time former champion jockey Shane Ellis and trainer Anthony ‘Baba’ Nunes both had two winners on the 11-race card. Racing continues on Saturday with the 78th running of the Lotto Classic for the Governor's Cup being the feature event. This race will be the last major prep for the June 30 Jamaica Derby.
