WICB, WIPA sign important agreements

The West Indies Cricket Board (WICB) and the players’ union, WIPA, have signed a long awaited memorandum of understanding, and collective bargaining agreement.

The agreements on Thursday formalised plans for a four-day franchise competition, starting in November,  in which 90 players will be centrally contracted by regional boards, plus a further 15 at the international level.

The signing also ends years of negotiations between the board and WIPA. The two sides have in the past been unable to agree terms.

Whereas the relationship between the Board and the players’ union had been strained under previous administrations, public bickering has become a thing of the past since Dave Cameron of Jamaica took over as President of the WICB, and Wavell Hinds, his country man became head of WIPA.
