Wilkinson to step down as chess president

President of the Jamaica Chess Federation Ian Wilkinson has told RJR Sports that the time has come for him to give up the presidency of the local governing body after 15 years holding the reigns. Wilkinson who may submit himself as a vice-presidential candidate for the World Chess Federation (FIDE) says the JCF has not yet put its weight behind any specific candidate for the FIDE presidential election set for October in Batumi, Georgia.

This, despite president of the Confederation of Chess for the Americas (CCA) Jorge Vega's position, that the CCA is backing Georgios Makropolous, the current deputy president of fide.
