Will In Charge named Horse of the Year

Diamond Mile winner Will In Charge is the 2018 Horse of the Year at Caymanas Park. Conditioned by trainer Robert Pearson and owned by Wilbert Bagwandeen, Will In Charge was ridden to five of his seven Grade 1 victories by Robert Halledeen. Will In Charge was impressive throughout last season, not just winning the lucrative Diamond Mile, but also landing the Legal Light Trophy, the Chairman's Trophy, the Prime Minister's Stakes and the Gold Cup.

The 6 year old chestnut horse was also named best stayer, best middle distance performer and champion 4 year old and up. Pearson says the Horse of the Year will make his 2019 debut in a month and not much will change this year in terms of how he is conditioned.

Meanwhile, Superstakes winner She's A Maneater who was beaten twice by Will In Charge, was voted runner-up to the Horse of the Year while Caribbean Sprint champion Chace The Great", was second runner-up. The imported Stranger Danger is the champion two year old while St Leger winner Marquesas is the champion 3 year old.

Marquesas’ conditioner Michael Marlowe was voted the most improved trainer, having finished  7th in the trainer's championships with 14 winners. Oneil Scott who finished 5th in the jockey's standings with 47 winners, was voted the most improved rider. The voting was done by a 17 member committee comprising various stakeholders and selected journalists.
