Windies break 17 year test victory drought in England

Commentary on the West Indies victory over England in the second test at Headingley

Led by a masterful batting display from Man of the Match Shai Hope, the West Indies completed a famous 5 wicket win over England on Tuesday’s 5th and final day of the second test at Headingley to level the 3-match series at 1-1.

Chasing 322 to win and resuming on 5-0, the West Indies achieved the thrilling victory in the post tea session posting 322-5. Hope achieved immortal status in the match after scoring 118 not out to add to the 147 he had made in the first innings. 

He also shared a 144 run 3rd wicket partnership with fellow ‘Bajan’ Kriagg Brathwaite who made 95 after he had resumed on 4. Jamaica's Jermaine Blackwood also scored a crucial 41 and Kieran Powell 23. Moeen Ali took 2-76 while there was a wicket each for Stuart Broad and Chris Woakes. Scores in the match: England 258 and 490-8 dec, the West Indies 427 and 322-4. It was the West Indies' first test victory in England since Edgbaston in 2000. The third and final test gets underway at Lord’s next Thursday.
