Windies crush Sri Lanka to take lead in test series

The West Indies have taken a 1-0 lead in their three match test series against Sri Lanka after recording a 226 run win in game one at the Queen’s Park Oval in Trinidad on Sunday. The Windies entered the game needing 7 wickets for victory while the visitors were in search of 277 more runs for an improbable win.

However, the Caribbean side needed little over a session to wrap up the contest as Sri Lanka resuming on 176-3, were dismissed for 226. Kusal Mendis took his overnight 94 past the 100 mark to top-score with 102. Angello Mathews with 31, was the next best scorer as Roston Chase bagged 4-15. Devendra Bishoo also had 3-48 while Shannon Gabriel ended with 2-52. Shane Dowrich was named Man of the Match for his defiant first innings century.

Scores in the game: West Indies 414-8 declared and 223-7 declared, Sri Lanka 185 and 226 all out. The second test starts on June 14.
