The West Indies suffered an innings and 272 run defeat, their heaviest loss against India - in their first test against India which ended on Saturday’s third day in Rajkot. Resuming their first innings on 94-6, a deficit of 555 runs, the Windies were dismissed for 181.
Roston Chase pushed on to a top score of 53 from his overnight 57 and Kemo Paul made 47 after resuming on 13 as spinner Ravi Ashwin ended with 4-37 and seamer Mohammad Shami 2 for 22. The Caribbean side didn't fare much better in their second innings having been asked to follow on.
Opener Kieran Powell with 83 was the lone bright spark with the bat top scoring with 83 with Roston Chase 20 being the next best scorer as the Windies were dismissed for 196. Left arm wrist spinner Kuldeep Yadav bagged 5-57, Ravindra Jadeja 3-35 and Ravichandra Ashwin 2-71. The second and final test begins next Friday in Hyderabad.
