Young Reggae Boyz crash out of CONCACAF U-17 Championship

Head coach of Jamaica's Under-17 football team Hopeton Gilchrist says individual errors cost  Jamaica a spot in the quarter-finals of the ongoing CONCACAF Championship. Jamaica lost 2-1 to El Salvador in the round of 16 on Wednesday morning at the IMG Academy in Florida. The Salvadorians took the lead on the stroke of half time through Steven Vasquez.

Jorge Flores doubled their advantage in the 70th minute, before Rajay Wright got the consolation goal for Jamaica in the 82nd minute. Wright ended the tournament as Jamaica's top scorer with four goals. This is the first time Jamaica has lost to El Salvador at a CONCACAF U-17 tournament since 2001.

With this defeat, Jamaica also misses out on qualification to the U-17 FIFA World Cup in Brazil later this year. Other than 2011, Jamaica's other participation in an Under-17 World Cup came in 1999.
