Extradition of Christopher 'Dudus' Coke

On the morning of Thursday, June 24, 2010, the alleged drug lord, Christopher "Dudus" Coke waived his right to fight his extradition request and that afternoon Coke was flown to the United States to face drug and gun running charges. This brought to an end a month long manhunt carried out by members of the security forces who carried out a military led operation in the ruling Jamaica Labour Party (JLP) stronghold of Tivoli Gardens. The incursion led to the death of over 70 people.Coke is accused of being the leader of the notorious Shower Posse, which US authorities say operates an international drug and gun smuggling network. It has also been blamed for numerous murders.Coke faces a maximum sentence of life in prison in the United States if convicted.
