In a defining moment for Hollywood, Disney and Marvel Studios' Black Panther exploded at the Presidents' Day box office, with a record-shattering $192 million for the three-day weekend and a projected $218 million-plus for the four-day holiday.
The Ryan Coogler-directed movie secured the fifth-biggest domestic opening of all time, and the best of any superhero film behind fellow Marvel title The Avengers, which earned $207.4 million in its first three days.
Other records broken include the biggest opening for an African-American director, the top-scoring superhero film and biggest February opener.
Audiences bestowed Black Panther with an A+ CinemaScore.
Overseas, Black Panther opened in virtually every major market earning a mighty global bow of $387 million through today.
The number is expected to skyrocket when it hits theaters in Russia on Thursday, Japan on March 1 and China on March 9.
Meanwhile, Black Panther: The Album, debuted at number one on the Billboard 200 chart, with 154,000 units sold.
The Black Panther album includes a number of songs by Kendrick Lamar, who curated and produced the hip-hop-heavy album.
The album also boast contributions from The Weeknd, SZA, Khalid and James Blake, among others.
Black Panther is the second soundtrack to reach number 1 on the Billboard 200 this year, following The Greatest Showman, which spent two weeks atop the list back in January.
