Prince's family sues doctor who prescribed him pain pills

The doctor who prescribed pain pills for Prince is now the target of a lawsuit from his family, who claim the physician is responsible for his death because he failed to treat him for opiate addiction.

The musician died of an accidental overdose of fentanyl on April 15, 2016.

Authorities say Dr. Michael Schulenberg admitted prescribing a different opioid (oxycodone) to Prince in the days before he died, under his bodyguard's name to protect the singer's privacy.

Schulenberg has disputed that, although he paid $30,000 to settle a federal civil violation alleging that the drug was prescribed illegally.

Prince's family is seeking unspecified damages in excess of $50,000.
