Byles expecting growth in manufacturing this year

Richard Byles, Co-Chairman of Jamaica's  Economic Policy Oversight Committee (EPOC) has tapped the manufacturing sector for growth this fiscal year.

Mr Byles, giving his monthly review of the performance of the economy on Tuesday, said he was expecting the economy to grow by 2.5% and that manufacturing will play its role in that achievement.

That expectation of manufacturing growth was helped by more favourable energy costs, he said.

The decline in manufacturing "has bottomed out" towards the end of 2013/ or the beginning of 2014, he said, as a result of which "we should see some growth out of that this year."
