IMAJ: "Exclude foreign companies from bidding on locally funded projects"

The Incorporated Masterbuilders Association of Jamaica, IMAJ, has presented proposals which it says will help revive the local construction sector.

According to the Association, the sector has been in an extended period of decline and is now facing a crisis. The IMAJ therefore wants the exclusion of  foreign companies from bidding on locally funded projects, including participation in the design and project preparation consultancy process.

It's also calling for immediate amendments to procurement policies to include project packaging guidelines to ensure that Jamaican contractors can bid on all Government contracts.

The Masterbuilders Association says steps should also be taken to ensure that bidding requirements do not effectively exclude locals from the process.
