Jamaica to benefit from programme to boost mineral sector

Jamaica is to benefit from a three-year programme aimed at positioning it to take advantage of  the minerals sector.

The 13 million-euro Development Minerals Programme, being funded by the European Union is being undertaken in six African, Caribbean and Pacific states.

It seeks to improve the management of  Neglected Development Minerals which include those used for industrial and construction purposes as well as semi-precious stones.

The project will also strengthen the capacity of  key stakeholders such as small-scale mining enterprises, business development centres and regulatory agencies.
