Lime beats Digicel in court

Lime scored a victory over its telecoms rival Digicel in the court on Friday.

Digicel took Lime to court in 2003 in a $16 million suit for monies it said Lime owes for interconnection fees.

Digicel had billed Lime for calls on its network, but the charges were disputed because Lime contended that bill was higher than they should have been.

The calls were billed to Lime as local calls which in 2003, were much more expensive than international calls.

But Lime contested the charges, saying the calls were actually of an international origin which were made by persons to seem as if they originated locally.

Digicel's own investigation is shown to have supported Lime's claim.

The hearing in the case was concluded in 2007, but judgement was reserved and handed down Friday.

The court recognised Lime was correct in offsetting the charges when it paid Digicel less than it was billed for.
