Quality of Service Rules established for telecommunications sector

The long-awaited Quality of Service Rules for the telecoms sector have been promulgated.
 
The Office of Utilities Regulation (OUR) announced this week that the rules establish targets for 21 fixed and mobile parameters with which Licensees are required to comply.
 
The parameters under the rules include Customer Complaint Resolution Rate, Fault Repair Rate, Dropped calls Rate Latency, and Data Transmission Rate.
 
Telecommunications service providers are now required to measure and report on these parameters on a quarterly basis starting August 1, 2024.
 
The OUR says the rules give it the authority to conduct its own measurements of the quality of service being delivered by Licensees.
 
It was also revealed that the regulatory authority is currently in the process of procuring the required equipment.
 
In the meantime, the OUR says it continues to have discussions with Licensees on the status of their businesses as it relates to the operationalisation of the measurement and reporting obligations specified in the rules.
