Regulatory framework advanced for bunkering industry

Transport Minister Robert Montague, says work on legislation to establish a regulatory framework for Jamaica's bunkering industry is advanced.

Bunkering is a maritime industry term related to the fueling of  ships and transportation of  fuel by sea vessels.

Montague says the legislation is going through the final stages of  the parliamentary process.

Attendant amendments have been prepared by the Chief  Parliamentary Counsel.

The Transport Minister said the legislation will facilitate the licensing of  bunker operators and their vessels to ensure the highest levels of  safety and protection of  the maritime environment are achieved in the carriage and transfer of  fuel in Jamaica.
