Sandals ends Beaches Sandy Bay lease

Sandals announced on Friday it has taken to option to terminate the lease arrangements it has to operate the property known as Beaches Sandy Bay. Sandals will no longer operate the hotel as of September 30, after 12 years which it had leased from Poinciana Resorts.

Director of Operations at Sandals Resorts which owns the Beaches brand, Wayne Cummings explained the reason for move. Mr. Cummings says the company has 220 persons on staff and Sandals has met with them and intends to transfer as many as possible to Negril, Whitehouse, Montego Bay and Ocho Rios properties.

Those who cannot be accommodated will be compensated as per the law.  Despite the contraction of the Beaches brand in Jamaica from three to two, Sandals says it is currently still looking for opportunities to grow.  Director of Business Processing and Operations at Sandals Resorts International, Wayne Cummings.

The company in a release today said the owners of the property indicate they will continue to operate the facility after Sandals contract is completed. For itself, Sandals says its clients who have booked to stay at the property after September 30, will be relocated without added costs.
