Benefit concert for rehabilitation of Ward Theatre

A benefit concert to raise funds for the rehabilitation of the Ward Theatre will be held on Sunday, November 18, at the Institute of Jamaica, East Street, Downtown Kingston.

The concert, which is being organised by the Ward Theatre Foundation, will start at 11.15 am.

The performers include Dr Curtis Watson, Pauline Watson, the Brandenburg Singers, Movements Dance Company, Peter Ashbourne, Rosina Moder, and Dr Carol Ball.

The concert coincides with the anniversary of the birth of the late Ruby Martin; a philanthropist who led the Ward Theatre restoration campaign.

Cedric McDonald; Director of the Ward Theatre Foundation, says the aim is to restore the theatre it to its former grandeur.

The theatre was presented as a gift to the citizens of Kingston in 1912 by Colonel Charles J. Ward, then Custos of Kingston.

It was declared a National Monument in January 2000.

Tickets for the concert may be obtained at the Ward Theatre and from the directors of the foundation.
