Ann-Marie Vaz sworn in as Portland Eastern MP

The Jamaica Labour Party's Ann-Marie Vaz on Tuesday afternoon took her seat in the House of Representatives for the first time.
 
At the start of the sitting, Mrs Vaz was sworn in as Member of Parliament for Portland Eastern. 
 
"I, Ann-Marie Theresa Vaz, due solemnly, sincerely, and truly declare and affirm that I will be faithful and bear true allegiance to Jamaica; that I will uphold and defend the constitution and laws of Jamaica and that I will conscientiously and impartially discharge my responsibilities to the people of Jamaica, so help me God," she recited. 
 
She defeated the People's National Party's candidate Damion Crawford in the April 4 by-election, polling 9,989 votes to Crawford's 9,670
