There is to be another closed session of the West Kingston Commission of Enquiry on Monday. This was disclosed during Friday morning's brief public hearing.
The Commission held closed sessions on Wednesday and Thursday to review applications from the Jamaica Defence Board and the Jamaica Constabulary Force to have certain documents excluded from the enquiry.
On Friday, attorneys representing the Jamaica Defence Force requested a further adjournment to allow Michael Hylton, QC, Lead Counsel for the Defence Board, to make submissions in relation to whether sensitive documents should be made public during the hearings. Mr. Hylton is off the island.
Chairman of the Commission, Sir David Simmons, said "in the circumstances, we are going to accede to that request, and his response will be taken on Monday morning, in a closed session."
Thereafter, he said, the commissioners will rule on the matter of public interest immunity.
Sir David said hearings for the applications for immunity have been challenging, but stressed that these are an important aspect of the proceedings.
He said there should be no further delays arising from this issue.
