At least four killed as Tropical Storm Erika slams into Dominica

Tropical Storm Erika brought destruction and sorrow to the island of Dominica, in the eastern Caribbean on Thursday, killing four persons and doing significant damange to the country's infrastructure.

This as 12.64 inches of rain fell in the capital Roseau during a 12-hour period.

According to an Associated Press report, the four persons were killed in floods and mudslides created by Erika's torrential rain. An elderly blind man and two children were reportedly killed in the south east of the island, and another man died in Roseau.

Several other persons have been reported missing.

At least 20 houses were also destroyed by the storm, according to the AP report.
