Attorney representing James Robertson refutes report of possible visa withdrawal by UK and Canada

The attorney representing the Jamaica Labour Party’s (JLP) James Robertson is refuting a newspaper report that the authorities in the UK and Canada are considering withdrawing visas issued to the former Minister of Energy and Mining.

Kirk Barrow, says to his knowledge this is not so.

The newspaper article quoted high ranking government sources as saying that Canadian and UK officials were looking at revoking Mr. Robertson's visas, as a consequence of his losing his US visa.

According to Mr. Barrow, his own checks have not provided any information to  support the claim.

“I've read the story and we have done some preliminary checks and we have not found any evidence to support that story. I’m not saying that there is no truth to the matter but we have investigated and there is no communication that we are able to identify that would have suggested that Canada and the UK are in the process of revoking”

Meanwhile, Mr. Barrow says the legal team is preparing to submit documents to the US Embassy in Kingston and the US State Department, in an effort to get a visa re-issued to Mr. Robertson.

 He explained to RJR News the documents are aimed at refuting allegations made against the former Minister, and giving details about his assets.  

“We want to show the embassy that there is no truth to any of the allegations that were made by anybody because we intend to show that all his assets were legitimate and we have the source of everything  that he owns, we want them to know (of) everything Mr. Robertson has and has worked for throughout the years …..”

However, Mr. Barrow declined to give a time line for the submission

“We are getting the documentation together and we want it to be complete so I’m not going to put a timeframe on it because we want it to be a thorough document” said the attorney.
