Belize Home Affairs Minister Kareem Musa has commended the police for making one of the biggest busts of high-powered firearms in the history of the country as discussions continue at the Cabinet level on whether to extend a state of emergency that expires next Friday.
Mr Musa says that despite strong criticism regarding the effectiveness of the SOE, it has been successful in ferreting out known gang members as well as their supply of drugs and weapons.
On Wednesday night, the Special Patrol Unit discovered a quantity of illegal drugs, as well as a cache of high-calibre weapons.
Cocaine and marijuana were also seized.
