Complaints continue of a shortage of motor vehicle licence plates at tax collectorates. This follows a statement on Wednesday by Tax Administration Jamaica (TAJ) that 500 plates had been distributed to major tax offices.
Callers to RJR News reported that when they visited the Constant Spring Collectorate they were informed that no plates were available.
One upset caller said he purchased his vehicle more than a month ago and has not been able to obtain plates.
Director of Communication at TAJ, Merris Haughton, says the initial 500 plates were primarily distributed to dealers.
A 4-week delay in raw material from overseas suppliers coupled with increased demand for licence plates have resulted in the shortage.
TAJ orders an average four thousand plates monthly and will be doubling that amount.
