Concern about adequate time to prepare for Local Government Elections

Concern is mounting at the Electoral Office of Jamaica (EOJ) amid speculation that the Local Government poll will be called next month.

The Electoral Office of Jamaica says it is becoming increasingly difficult to finalise arrangements for the election within that time frame.

Director of Elections Orrette Fisher, says $1.3 billion is needed to conduct the Local Government election. Speaking on Tuesday night at a Rotary Club meeting in St. Andrew, Mr. Fisher said he is concerned about the funding for the election. He explained that ideally, he can work with three to two months lead time for planning, however it was very difficult without the funding.
