Cop charged for corruption offered bail

A policeman charged with corruption was offered bail on Thursday when he appeared before the St. Andrew Parish Court.

Constable Otis Wright was charged on Wednesday following a ruling by the Director of Public Prosecutions.

He was accused of collecting $2,000 from a motorist during a police spot check along Hope Road in St. Andrew in June.

The motorist reportedly photographed the money and reported the matter to the police.

Constable Wright was arrested when investigators returned to the scene with the motorist and the photographed cash was reportedly found in his possession.

The constable, who was offered bail in the sum of $400,000, denied collecting the cash.

He is to return to court on October 26.
