Councillor on gun charge

Director of Public Prosecutions Paula Llewellyn ruled on Wednesday that charges be laid against a People's National Party Councillor.

Councillor Fitzroy Wilson, who represents the Boscobel Division in St. Mary, was charged on Wednesday morning with illegal possession of  a firearm, and assault. He appeared before the Port Maria Criminal Court in the afternoon and was offered bail in the sum of  $150,000.

It's reported that in March last year, Mr Wilson got into an altercation with a couple at a car wash in St. Mary. During the dispute, it's alleged that he pulled his licensed firearm, pointed it at the couple and threatened to shoot them.

The matter was reported to the police, and following an investigation a file was submitted to the DPP.

In applying for bail on behalf of his client, defence attorney, Oswest Senior Smith, said Councillor Wilson strongly denies the allegations.

Mr Wilson is to return to court on September 24.
