Education Minister advocates for Jamaica to be multi-lingual

As debate continues over whether Spanish should be Jamaica's official second language, the Education Minister is advocating that the country become multi-lingual.

Speaking at a reception at the Japanese embassy over the weekend, Senator Ruel Reid announced plans to introduce different languages at an early age.

Senator Reid said the plan is to introduce the languages from the countries with which Jamaica trades.

"In becoming multi-lingual, it's not so much doing it at CXC or above grade nine but it's doing it earlier... because I want to expose as much as possible, many languages; not just Spanish or French, but certainly Japanese and Mandarin and (languages of) all the major countries that we, in fact, trade with," Senator Reid asserted.
