End to Petrojam workers' sick-out uncertain

John Levy, General Secretary of UCASE

There is uncertainty whether some unionised workers at Petrojam will be back on the job on Wednesday.

The technical and administrative employees staged a sick-out on Tuesday to protest the dismissal of a senior manager on Friday.

"I'm not a medical doctor, so I cannot give any assurance as to what will happen tomorrow. But I'm hoping that their condition will improve to the level that they may be able to turn out and to work safely," John Levy, General Secretary of the Union of Clerical, Administrative and Supervisory Employees (UCASE), told RJR News Tuesday afternoon.

A meeting is to be held at the Ministry of Labour on Wednesday involving the management of Petrojam and UCASE.

Mr. Levy is hopeful that the dispute can be resolved.
