Finance Minister Audley Shaw says his failures in business have prepared him well for the job of leading the country's economic team.
Mr. Shaw, who was speaking at the ground breaking ceremony for a new motor oil company in Jamaica on Wednesday, indicated that he believes his business failures are a blessing rather than a blight.
"I think it's great that you have a government that has ministers that have run businesses; they have seen successes; they have had their losses, as indeed, I have had, when we had the collapse of the financial sector in Jamaica.
"So sometimes it's better to have somebody in charge, who has been in the arena and understands the problems of the arena and therefore, is not grudgeful about providing appropriate incentives to encourage investment and risk taking," asserted the Finance Minister.
Mr. Shaw reiterated that he will ensure the report into the financial sector collapse in the 1990's is prepared for public discourse.
