Fire Brigade gets two command units

The Jamaica Fire Brigade (JFB) now has two command units which will improve its ability to respond to emergencies.

The vehicles were donated by the Government of Japan.

Designed to operate as mobile offices, each unit can accommodate six persons and has four workstations, two bunk beds, as well as kitchen and bathroom facilities.

The units are also equipped with a standby generator and air conditioning.

Facilities for computers are to be installed.

A third unit is scheduled to arrive in the island in December.

Speaking at the handing over ceremony on Wednesday at the York Park Fire Station in Kingston, Minister of Local Government Desmond McKenzie, said the units will enable the Brigade to better coordinate its activities with other emergency-response agencies.

Mr. McKenzie said the vehicles can withstand natural disasters, fires as well as terrorist attacks.
