Flooding hampers sitting of CXC exams for some students in St. Thomas

By Kimone Witter

The sitting of external examinations for some students of St. Thomas Technical High School has been disrupted Monday due to flooding of the Orange Walk road leading to the institution.

Classes at the school have been suspended, but students sitting Caribbean Examinations Council (CXC) exams, who are able to get to the school, are being accommodated there.

Meanwhile, the Overseas Examinations Commission is advising students in St. Thomas who are affected by flooded roads to attend the closest alternative examination centre.

Those schools accommodating students for the Electronic Document Preparation and Management Paper 2, should make contact with the OEC.

Heavy overnight rain has flooded several other roads in St. Thomas, including Golden Grove to Amity Hall and Hordley Crossing to Bath.

Persons rescued

Two persons were rescued after the car in which they were travelling got stuck in flood waters at Hordley Crossing in St. Thomas on Monday morning.

A truck pulled the submerged Nissan AD Wagon from the water.

Heavy rain caused the Plantain Garden River to overflow its bank, which resulted in the crossing being flooded.

The water is receding, but operators of small vehicles are still being advised to avoid the area until further notice.
