Gov't urged to increase pension benefits for retired judges

Marisa Dalrymple Philibert

The government is being lobbied to increase pension benefits for retired judges.

Marisa Dalrymple Philibert, Member of Parliament for Trelawny Southern, raised the issue in the House of Representatives on Tuesday.

She is proposing that the pension of retired judges be indexed to the salary of sitting judges so they can manage the effects of inflation and "that the rate of pensionable salary for retired judges be such as is used to compute taxable income, thus incorporating (among other things) emoluments and housing."

Mrs Dalrymple Philibert called for the laws to be amended so the changes can be made.
