Haiti requests financial aid from IMF

Haiti has requested financial support from the International Monetary Fund (IMF) through the multilateral's Rapid Credit Facility amid the coronavirus pandemic.

The government is seeking to help protect Haitians from the impact of  the rapidly evolving global pandemic and prevent the further spread of  the virus.

The IMF says Haiti is facing financing constraints which complicate the provision of the most basic healthcare measures and will require the support of international stakeholders.

It says its staff  team is working expeditiously to respond to the request for the Rapid Credit Facility so that a proposal can be considered by the Fund's Executive Board in coming weeks.
