The Ministry of Health's preparations for the current flu season have been bolstered with a $52 million grant from the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).
At a news conference on Thursday, Health Minister Dr. Christopher Tufton highlighted that flu symptoms change with each annual season.
He said last year, more than 1,700 cases of severe acute respiratory illness or severe cases of the flu were recorded. There were also seven deaths.
Meanwhile, Dr. Karen Webster-Kerr, Chief Epidemiologist, outlined some of the symptoms persons should look for during the flu season.
She listed chills, fever, headache, complications of pneumonia, ear infection and sinusitis as symptoms common during that period.
According to Dr. Webster-Kerr, chronic illnesses, such as heart disease, can also be worsened by contracting the flu.
