Jamaicans staying away from changing immigration status in light of deportation moves

Wayne Golding, US based lawyer
It appears that Jamaicans in the United States without proper documentation have stayed away from getting their status regularised, despite the threat posed by the recent Executive Orders issued by President Donald Trump.

US-based attorney-at-law Wayne Golding is speculating that fear has gripped many of them, causing them to stay away from the institutions which could offer assistance.

Some of the Orders signed last month by President Trump imposed restrictions on some nationalities entering the US, and closer scrutiny for others. The orders are now the subject of litigation.

Immigration attorneys have warned undocumented Jamaicans to get their houses in order. However, according to Mr Golding, a number of reasons are causing them to stay in the shadows.   These range from fear, affordability and a wait and see attitude.

The warning has also been extended to green card holders, who Mr Golding observes have also been expressing reservation about changing their status.
