JCF concerned about members being assaulted by public

Concern has been raised by the High Command of  the Jamaica Constabulary Force (JCF) about an increase in incidents in which members of  the public interfere in police operations, particularly when an arrest is being made.

In a statement yesterday,  the High Command said uniformed police officers, attempting to carry out an arrest, not only face resistance from the offender but also members of  the public.

In some of  the cases cops were assaulted.

Several of  the incidents were captured on video and shared on social media.

Communications Officer for the JCF, Inspector Dahlia Garrick, described the practice as dangerous.

"Sometimes (they)  hold onto the officer, posing a danger to themselves and the officers. We are appealing to members of the public to desist from doing this. If you are obstructing the police in anyway from carrying out their job in an effective manner, you will be prosecuted," she said.
