Keith Hinds quits politics

Former Mayor of Portmore, Keith Hinds, is leaving representational politics.

Mr. Hinds, a member of the Jamaica Labour Party, was defeated by George Lee of the People's National Party in the race for the mayorship of Portmore earlier this year, after holding the post since 2007.

Mr. Hinds told RJR News Tuesday afternoon that he's now retiring from political life, to serve his country through more spiritual pursuits:

“I've thought about this for a very long time and I have decided to continue my walk with the lord so I have decided to give politics a rest. For me to give the ministry the kind of attention that I need to I have decided to quit representational politics to give my full attention to seeking the church. I cannot say if I’m going to be a minister or a pastor I’m just going to be a servant.”

Mr. Hinds was also quick to point out that his move is not triggered by any discord between him and the JLP.

“I am a Jamaica Labour Party member and I continue to remain so. I just am quitting representational politics. I have a good relationship with the leader of the party; I have a good relationship with former leaders of the party, the executive.  I do enjoy a good relationship with all of them.”
