Mechanical problems led to petroleum tanker fire

The Jamaica Fire Brigade has determined that a malfuctioning turbo was the cause of  last week's petroleum tanker fire in Mona, St. Andrew.

Emilio Ebanks, spokesman for the Brigade, told RJR News that the turbo malfunction resulted in flying metal parts. He said  sparks from the flying metal resulted in the combustion which subsequently led to the blaze.
“From what we have unearthed, the turbo malfunctioned. Remember we are not mechanics, so from the technical aspect I cannot say…. but from our investigations its the turbo that caused the fire,” Ebanks said.

The tanker caught fire on Thursday afternoon in the vicinity of  the Mona High School, resulting in damage to houses and sections of  the electricity and telecommunications infrastructure.
