The scandal-plagued oil refinery Petrojam has been hit with the departure of more critical personnel including a manager involved in a major project at the entity.
RJR News has received information that Chevril Shaw, the Project Manager for the Vacuum Distillation Unit (VDU) project, and Roderick Codner, the Senior Supervisor in charge of Reliability and Maintenance, have both resigned.
Their resignations take effect on June 30.
A notice confirming the resignation of the two managers was issued by Petrojam's Human Resource Development and Administration Manager, Yolande Ramharrack.
It is unclear what impact Ms Shaw's departure will have on the VDU project.
As part of Petrojam's expansion, a VDU is required to be installed.
The Vacuum Distillation Unit is part of the oil-refining process that will help to produce petroleum products out of heavy oils.
The fuel produced from the VDU will be used for the bunkering industry and the production of asphalt.
News of the departure of two senior employees comes a week after members of Parliament's Public Administration and Appropriations Committee (PAAC) raised concerns about the high staff turnover at Petrojam.
It was pointed out that staff turnover at the entity remains high despite the engagement of the new Human Resource Manager.
It was revealed that 13 members of the technical team have left the refinery in the last year.
Next steps
In the meantime, it remains unclear what next steps will be taken at Petrojam amid mounting allegations of corruption and mismanagement at the oil refinery.
The Cabinet announced the appointment of new Jamaican directors on Tuesday after the three previous board members resigned this week.
When contacted Wednesday afternoon, Paul Hoo, the new Petrojam chairman, said he was not at liberty to speak about how the board will approach the situation at the refinery because he has not yet been formally introduced.
He also said he has not yet been properly briefed on the situation and it would be inappropriate to speak at this time.
The other Jamaican board members are Rosie Pilner and Wayne Powell.
It was disclosed this week that the previous board had not met in the last nine months.
Fix problems
Meanwhile, the Union of Clerical, Administrative and Supervisory Employees (UCASE), which represents workers at Petrojam, has said the Board must act quickly to correct the problems at the entity.
According to John Levy, the union's general secretary, there are several issues, such as the attrition rate of the staff, which need immediate attention.
