National Road Safety Council wants timeline for implementation of new traffic ticketing system

Dr. Lucien Jones, Vice Chairman of the National Road Safety Council

The National Road Safety Council is anxious for the authorities to give a timeline for the implementation of the new traffic ticketing system amid a rising number of road deaths.

Dr. Lucien Jones, Vice Chairman of the Council, said National Security Minister Dr. Horace Chang provided an update on the progress made in operationalising the system, during a meeting last week. However, he said no timeline was given for implementation.

"It would appear as if this will happen some time this year, but nobody was willing to give us a timeline, and we are more than anxious to have one because of the current crisis we are facing of so many deaths on our road," he lamented.

During the 2019/20 Sectoral Debate in April, Dr. Chang had stated the Government should have a fully operational traffic ticketing system in place by the middle of the year.
