The National Association of Transport Operators (NATO) wants Dr. Omar Davies, Transport and Works minister to meet with members on Wednesday over plans to reorganise the Kingston Metropolitan Transport Region (KMTR).
News that the Jamaica Urban Transit Company (JUTC) is now accepting applications for sub-franchise licences is causing jitters among some bus operators who are worried that they will be forced out of business.
Michael Morgan, President of NATO, is warning that if there is no meeting normality cannot be guaranteed come Thursday.
“And we need the mInister to understand that the citizens have a right just like everyone else and we are not prepared to accept this draconian law that they are proposing and for now we will not make any more comments. We are giving until Wednesday to get a response and from there all of our groups island wide will come to a decision,” he said.
The group represents 20-thousand bus and taxi operators across the island.
