No permission given for Flanker motorcade - police

The St. James Police have confirmed that no permission was given for Tuesday afternoon's Jamaica Labour Party motorcade in Flanker, St. James which was attacked by gunmen.

The motorcade was proceeding along Kodak Street following Nomination Day activities when shots were fired.

A man, whose identity is not yet known, was killed and three other persons injured. Twelve vehicles were damaged during the incident.

The incident has prompted Senior Superintendent Steve McGregor, Head of  the St. James Police,  to again call for good sense to prevail during the election campaign season.

Reacting to the shooting, SSP McGregor said the police are continuously monitoring the situation, and information gathered is used to determine the granting of permission for marches and motorcades.

SSP McGregeor appealed to organisers and political officials to heed all instructions and warnings given in the future.

He stressed that there had been warnings against the staging of  motorcades in the area.

The St. James Police are asking persons with information regarding the deadly attack to contact detectives at 953-6191, the 119 emergency number, or the nearest Police Station.
