A female employee at the Noel Holmes Hospital in Hanover is nursing injuries after she was reportedly attacked on the premises last Thursday.
A relative told RJR News the woman was sexually assaulted, stabbed in the neck and beaten.She was admitted to hospital and released. The suspect was taken into police custody. He is said to be mentally ill.
In the meantime, Minister of Health, Dr. Fenton Ferguson says the continuous assault on health care workers must stop.
In a statement on Wednesday Ferguson said community members must cooperate so that the police can apprehend those involved.
He said Jamaicans have to take a stand against criminals and remember that these acts can affect anyone.Earlier this week, two Cuban nurses attached to the Buff Bay Community hospital were attacked by a gunman at their residence in Portland.
A man was taken into custody in relation to the incident.
